The Graon mo Jastis Pati (GJP), is fielding seven candidates in the March 23rd Tafea Provincial Elections; six on Tanna and one on Aneityum, for the only seat on the island.
This number is expected to be confirmed once the Electoral Commission has the final list Gazetted today.
Although the Graon mo Jastis Pati never contested the Tafea Provincial Elections before, GJP secured one parliamentary seat in the 2015 snap general elections by one of the youngest Vanuatu politicians, MP Andrew Napuat, from Tanna.
Speaking to the Daily Post from Tanna yesterday, MP Andrew Napuat, who will be leading the GJP Tafea political campaign team says he is confident the party will secure seats in the new Tafea Provincial Council.
“We are waiting for the Electoral Commission in Port Vila to officially declare the names of the candidates then the GJP will start its campaign.
“In fact we are preparing for the launching that will be held at Louieru Village, Central Tanna, on March 8, once the names of candidates are officially declared by the Electoral Commission,” says MP Andrew Napuat.
“The GJP is gaining political momentum here in Tanna and the outer islands with many groups of people from different political parties performing custom ceremonies to ally and support GJP in this Tafea Provincial elections. The reason is because they have witnessed how GJP operates in terms of transparency and accountability, Napuat said.
“One of the examples of GJP Pati reaching the grassroots needs is the distribution of my allocation of Vt1.3 Million towards educational fees for secondary and university students from Tanna.
“This was done before the start of 2017 school term,” MP Andrew Napuat claims.
The Tafea Provincial Council has 19 seats altogether, and the GJP Pati says it is confident it will secure seats in the new Council.
“The GJP campaign is unique in that each candidate has their own campaign manager, while I am here to oversee the whole campaign rolling and assist here and there and as and when I am required.
“I will also travel to Aneityum to assist our campaign team there for the one and only Tafea outer island seat,” says MP Andrew Napuat.
