Vanuatu Municipalities Minister, Andrew Napuat, told the Port Vila Municipal Council there will not be a public holiday on Monday when Port Vila marks the date of its creation 43 years of existence.
Minister Napuat told the Clerk of Port Vila Municipal, Ms Michelle Jonas, that the government is considering “declaring a day this year when all Provinces and Municipalities” shall have a holiday to mark the birth of their councils.
Port Vila Day celebrations will take place this Monday June 11 along the streets of Port Vila.
Minister Napuat said many business houses have complained over the number of Public Holidays our country has and the government has decided that all the provinces and municipalities will only have a holiday.
Internal Affairs Minister Napuat was at the Town Hall Thursday morning to open the First Council Meeting of Lord Mayor Albert Sandy Daniel’s council yesterday.
He opened the Council meeting in the morning and promised the Councillors during the current Parliament session there will be an amendment in Cap 126 (Municipalities Act) that could see better working conditions for the councillors or elected representatives of Port Vila.
The Full Council could not take place on Thursday.
