Napuat requests MPs to allow government to serve at least one year before motion

The Member of Parliament (MP) of Tanna Constituency, Andrew Napuat has called upon fellow MPs to provide the government with “fair chance” to remain in power for a minimum of one year before considering the submission of a No-Confidence motion against the Prime Minister (PM).

Napuat, a member of the Graon mo Jastis (GJP) party, made this call during yesterday’s parliamentary session, held to deliberate the No-Confidence motion against PM Ishmael Kalsakau.

Napuat highlighted the significance of allowing a full year to pass, during which annual reports would be generated, enabling a comprehensive assessment of the government’s performance.

He argued that after this period, a determination could be made regarding the government’s achievements.

Should the government fall short in its duties, Napuat acknowledged that presenting a Motion of No-Confidence would indeed be appropriate.

He cautioned against raising concerns based on speculative assumptions within the initial year of a government’s tenure.

While MP Napuat acknowledged the MPs’ constitutional right to initiate a No-Confidence motion, he reiterated the importance of affording the government a reasonable timeframe to fulfill its responsibilities before considering such a step.
