Member of Parliament for Tanna, Andrew Napuat, has purchased 1,500 iron sheets for his supporters from the factory in China and had them delivered to Tanna.

MP Napuat told Daily Post that he took this decision to make all the payment from Huayuan Industry Co. LTD factory in China to Vanuatu because it is cheaper compared to purchasing it locally.

The iron sheets were delivered to Tanna last week.

Napuat said during his first mandate as member of Parliament from 2016-2020, his focus was not only to help his supporters but every island of Vanuatu by ensuring that all the people feel the effect of decentralization.

He said his initiatives were very successful and have helped many of his constituents’ needs like in school fees and many more.

The former Minister of Internal affairs said for his second mandate from 2020-2024 while in Opposition he will now focus to provide iron sheets to over 1400 of his voters.

“I want to see all my voters build and have a proper roofing for their houses and also while many are still recovering from the Cyclone Pam, it is my duty to provide good and strong quality iron sheets for their house,” MP Napuat said. He added each of his voters will have 5 pieces of iron sheets that are 4 metres long.

Napuat’s committees around Tanna have already selected the first beneficiaries. If a couple voted for him, they are entitled to 10 iron sheets as the sharing is made according to the votes cast.

“Our priority focus is the elderly and widows, the mass concentration of sharing will be at Naka, North Tanna, where I have many voters, then slowly moving to East, West and South Tanna,” he added.

MP Napuat said if he had paid the iron sheets in Vanuatu the price will be twice as much as what he paid for.

“I only spent almost VT4 million for importing these items,” he added.

“With this project, families can also use the iron sheets as rain water catchment and with the help of councilors, water tanks will be provided to some of the households.”

MP Napuat said he will purchase 1,500 iron sheets to be shared to all of his voters every year.

The first handing over to the beneficiaries will take place shortly.
