The Vanuatu Government through the Ministry of Internal Affairs is looking at introducing a ‘cash for work’ program for the displaced Ambae families on Maewo and Santo.
Minister of Internal Affairs, Andrew Napuat made the announcement to local media yesterday morning.
Napuat said the government has provided relief supplies for their daily sustenance, however, there are social areas that the Ministry felt could be introduced to economically empower these families.
“Thus, we recognise that this right has been infringed and giving back this right in such programs will elevate and boost their morale.
“My ministry is hoping to establish this collaboration with the Area Administrators before the end of the year,” the Minister said.
Further updates on this initiative will be provided in the coming weeks.
According to Napuat, the ministry will be staging major events in the near future, either through sports or music to continue to uplift the hearts of the displaced communities.
Napuat acknowledged that these are some initiatives that the ministry under his leadership is planing to embark on to specifically to inspire the Ambae families a message of care and hope for the future.
