Former Minister of Internal Affairs and current Minister of Finance and Economic Management, Johnny Koanapo, has voiced strong support for Andrew Napuat, the new Minister of Internal Affairs, in continuing development projects.
These initiatives include ambitious plans for new townships across the country and the establishment of two marinas—one in Santo and another at Havannah Harbor on Efate.
Mr. Koanapo, who previously chaired the task force for these projects during his tenure at the MoIA, expressed confidence that Mr Napuat will drive these efforts forward with “new energy”.
Despite his new role, Minister Koanapo remains closely involved, ensuring that the Ministry of Finance and Economic Management (MoFEM) continues to support the projects’ financial aspects.
“The projects belong to the government, initiated under the MoIA,” Koanapo stated. “I commend Minister Napuat for his energetic approach and trust he will advance these plans.”
Last week, Minister Napuat presented Minister Koanapo with a council paper outlining redesigns for the townships, signalling ongoing commitment to the projects.
The Minister of MoFEM confirmed that MoFEM will play a crucial role in securing the necessary budget for land acquisition, with funds already earmarked for next year’s budget.
He also noted that Minister Napuat has assumed the role of chairman for the projects’ task force, and he expressed full confidence in Mr Napuat’s ability to lead this initiative to success.
