Minister Napuat requests Traffic Control Plan

Minister of Internal Affairs, Andrew Napuat has requested a timetable for a joint Vanuatu Police Force (VPF), Port Vila Municipal Police (PVMP) and Public Land Transport Authorities (PLTA) traffic control plan commencing next week.

The Minister of Internal Affairs said this plan should be produce and executed three times a week.

Minister Napuat said that he have noted that there were vehicles that are not roadworthy or are using the roads without proper permits, licenses and drivers’ operating documents.

He said these vehicles need to be arrested and put off the road and the drivers or owners also need to be held accountable.

“I refer specifically to Land Public Transport operators who must be referred to the office of PLTA their drivers and vehicle permits,” he said.

“I do understand that these exercises involve a lot of resources but it is our responsibility to ensure that it is carried out amidst the increasing number of vehicles on the road, increase number of roads accidents and people driving under the influence of alcohol”.

He ordered the senior officers involve to liaise with responsible authorities and have the plan submitted next week.
