Minister Napuat Pays Medical Freight to Tanna

Minister for Internal Affairs, Andrew Napuat has officially handed over a cheque to transport a freight of medical supplies to Tanna on Friday, September 20.

The cheque of Vt332,640 was given to the Bridging Health Organisation (BHO), an Australian based organisation in Queensland which assisted in delivering medical response services to remote areas in Tanna island.

Receiving the check was the President of BHO, Riccardo Yasso who shared his deepest gratitude to the Minister for his generous support in paying the cargo fee.

“Originally centered in Lenakel hospital, Bridging Health has been servicing for seven years in the southern island,” said Mr Yasso

The freight, packed with medical provisions of first aid supplies, an ultrasound machine, mobility aid equipment and other medical supplies will be transported by Vanuatu Cargo departing today on Saturday September 21, to reach Lenakel Hospital where it will be sorted and delivered to various aid posts in Tanna.

BHO Vanuatu Representative, Inet Elisa reported that the organisation has travelled to 17 villages in the island with doctors and team of medical volunteers to deliver health services and care to the people.

Minister Napuat conveyed his thanks for the significance support and assistance from the Australian organisation for distributing medical service to the communities of Tanna.

“This payment made today was taken from my allocation fund as a Member of Parliament by the Government,” he said.

“Health is an important sector of the economy, we need to team up with our partner organisations to improve the aid services in our country.

“As long as I remain as a Member of Parliament for Tanna, I will continue to support the people living in rural areas.

“I encourage other MPs and Leaders that for the last 39 years, we need to focus on spending our allocation wage wisely that will make a difference in the lives of the people.”
