Keep Feiawa Park alive and safe: Minister Napuat

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Andrew Napuat, told the Port Vila Municipal Council (PVMC) to keep the Feiawa Park (Sea Front) alive and safe for visitors and all residents of Port Vila during the official handover yesterday.

Minister Napuat made the statement upon reviving the key of the park from the New Zealand (NZ) High Commissioner, Jonathan Schwass, on behalf of the government and people of NZ.

The new face-lift of ‘the Sea Front’ which include Fatumaru Bay were part of the Vanuatu Tourism Infrastructure Project (VTIP) funded by the NZ Government.

After presenting the key to the Mayor of Port Vila, Albert Sandy, Minister Napuat said: “The key comes with a responsibility. PVMC has a responsibility to oversee the development of the park and its maintenance.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs is happy that the council already has a management plan for the park. The council must work with business houses to organize recreational and commercial programs for enjoyment.

“Sea Front is one of the most pristine place in the south Pacific. The park should be accessible and inclusive to all visitors. The beauty of the place must be maintained so that visitors cannot forget when they visit.”

Minister Napuat said the council must manage the Feiawa Park in a way that the people can feel a sense of belonging when they go to interact with each in events.

“The citizens must take pride and treasure the beautiful environment of the park. People must should not throw rubbish in the park as it would make the place look dirty,” he added.

Mayor Sandy assured NZ as the development partner, the government and stakeholders that PVMC will take necessary measures to keep Port Vila clean and safe at all times.

“PVMC will be introducing by-laws to guide the development of Feiawa Park.PVMC needs help from citizens to keep the properties inside the park safe,” he said.

Mayor Sandy said providing municipal police to guard Feiawa and Fatumaru Bay is not enough to prevent destroying properties inside the park.

The people and paramount chief of Ifira are acknowledged for providing PVMC with the land for the park.

NZ Government is applauded for funding the beautification of the park.
