Political groupings in North Tanna are crying out for supporters, and that, is the very reason for reunification.
The First Political Advisor to the Ministry of Lands, Andrew Napuat, said the above when commenting on an article in Saturday’s Daily Post about political groups in north Tanna uniting under the Cloud Zero Movement.
He said he was not surprised by the merging political groups of north Tanna as claimed by Cloud Zero Movement’s Kasu Naung , saying other political blocs are wary of the newly emerging political move in the said area, led by his group because GJP now claims more supporters in north Tanna..
“On December 28, 2014, a new historical moment of politics arrived in north Tanna where chief Jimmy Jiod of the Lounimahampin nakamal performed a pig killing ceremony and announced in front of his people and the GJP Executive that the Cloud Zero name will no longer be used,” he said.
“The chief also announced the formation of a new GJP sub-committee at his nakamal and performed a ceremony to affiliate with GJP in front of his people.
“A political analyst would know that the merging political grouping does not happen in the past because of numbers (support).
“After my awareness around north Tanna, Middlebush, west Tanna and south Tanna, Cloud Zero brought in Tokian and tried to convince Iauko group to join.
“I would like to invite Mr. Naung to set his facts straight at any nakamal anywhere in north Tanna in front of all the chiefs, plus the new merging political group to face me to prove they still maintain their claimed support.”
Napuat said on December, GJP took north Tanna by storm with a tour that begun at Louhitahl, the base of a current MP.
“I never planned to go there but was invited by chief Iaken Maul,” he said.
“Any claims about the withdrawal of support to GJP is false. Chief Willie Makula, chief Iaken Maul and Kamil have not gone to the nakamal to withdraw their support to date.
“So I am asking Mr. Naung not to mislead people. I will only respect what the nakamal says.”
He added that a councilor of Iauko group who scored the highest votes in the Iauko grouping, well over 700 according to the results, has now affiliated with the GJP.
“It is just the beginning of 2015 and you are already firing your last missiles,” he said.
Napuat said as a new and emerging leader he has the backing of his chiefs.
“GJP is gaining momentum on Tanna and we only wish 2016 comes overnight. GJP is on Tanna and the door is open to anyone who knows this is a new political party with new vision, new mindset and new way of leadership that is shaping people to be leaders in a new way. Our Tanna GJP Chairman is Johnson Kail who could be contacted on: 5405738.”
Samuel James of Tanna, who lives in Vila and assists his elder brother in helping a community on their home island, helping out with school fees, widows and people in need says he has heard many reports and rumours in their area in north Tanna and is not happy with the recent reports and the recent article.
“We look at the welfare of over 300 people,” he said.
“My brother, Johnson Kail is the chairman and looks after GJP’s affairs on the island. I thank GJP for assisting the community and changing their attitude towards something better.
“Leaders at the top must recognise what the grassroots are doing.
“In regards to the Cloud Zero movement and other political groupings, people must see the reality, listen and weigh words and actions of leaders to rightly determine their leaders at the national level. Leaders must walk the talk.”
Meanwhile Napuat thanked Mr. Naung, MP Richard and their political bloc, saying even though they were not part of the Natuman led-government negotiation and formation, MP Richard later joined the government.
“I kindly ask MP Richard, Mr. Naung and their grouping to keep their word and support this government till 2016, now that they realized is a good government and allow this government to bring in developments for our people.”
