Chiefs need support from all citizens: Minister Napuat

Chiefs around Vanuatu are putting enormous efforts in their communities to maintain peace and order in different provinces of Vanuatu.

While voluntary doing their job, many of them face many challenges.

Minister of Internal Affairs, Andrew Napuat has asked all citizens of Vanuatu to appreciate the good works of every chiefs around Vanuatu.

“Everyone of us within different communities in Vanuatu either in the urban areas or rural areas, we have to respect our chiefs, support them and importantly respect their roles because they are a good asset in the country’s (governance) system,” said minister Napuat.

In order to maintain peace within a communities, chiefs in different areas in Vanuatu have to walk long distances just to solve a problem and continue their good job to maintain law, order and respect within their respective communities.

“We have to value our chiefs for their great commitment, their voluntary work and we have to support them in different ways to help them doing their job with perfection for the good of a communities and Vanuatu as a whole,” he added.

Minister Napuat made the remarks in his address to the Tanna Nikoletan council of Chiefs last Friday, when the chairman of the council, Chief Willie Lop made a courtesy visit to his office.

The minister also handed over a full computer set to the Tanna Nikoletan Council of Chiefs to support them for them for the good work they’ve done on the island of Tanna.

This is not the first time minister Napuat has helped the council of chiefs on his home island.

After his election back in 2016 he made cash donations to five different council of chiefs on Tanna.

The Nikoletan Council of Chiefs’ recent visit to Port Vila was for the election of the Chairman of the Malvautumauri, at the end of October.

Along with others chiefs, they have elected chief Willie Plasua from Merelava in Torba Province as head of the Malvatumauri National Council of Chiefs.
