Busy Year Ahead: Minister Napuat

This year will be a very busy year for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which is directly responsible for the country’s elections.

While the actual date for the 2020 General Election is yet to be set, Minister of Internal Affairs, Andrew Napuat said preparations towards the 2020 general election is high on the 2019 agenda of the Ministry he shoulders as well as government agencies and institutions that are directly or indirectly involved in national and other elections.

“This is going to be a very busy year for all of us, especially the Ministry of Internal Affairs, as we begin the preparations for the 2020 general elections. It is also going to be a very busy year if the country goes to a referendum this year, prior to the general elections in 2020,” says Minister Napuat.

The state minister assures the country that the present government will ensure a smooth approach to the 2020 general elections. He said all stakeholders including government ministries, departments, agencies and as well as development partners will pull together in the various preparations towards the 2020 general elections.

On the political Reform Consultation, the Government wants the members of the public to give their views on its propose political reform package. Members of Parliament (MPs) are already taking the propose political reform package to their constituencies for consultations.

In the meantime, Minister Napuat has assured that his Ministry of Internal Affairs will ensure that the country is fully ready prior to the 2020 general elections.

The date for the 2020 general eletions will be determined after consultations with the office of the Prime Minister and the Minister for Internal Affairs.
